CHEN RUO BING

Chen Ruo Bings Thema ist die Leere. Ihm dient als Leitspruch «In der Leere des Bildes liegt die Quelle für dessen Bedeutung.» Das heißt er verleiht dem Bild bewußt keinen Sinn, aber er geht nicht soweit, eine leere Leinwand zu präsentieren. Im Gegenteil: Seine Bilder entwickeln sich zu farbigen Lichträumen. Er bannt das immaterielle Licht, das scheinbare Nichts, in dünn auf die rohe Leinwand gemalte Farben, die bei längerem Hinsehen wieder entmaterialisiert wirken. Sie scheinen wieder reines Licht zu werden.

Chen Ruo Bing (*1970 China) studierte an der Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts, Hangzhou und bei Gotthard Graubner an der Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. Er erhielt Preise und Förderungen, u.a. das Aufenthaltsstipendium der Josef und Anni Albers Foundation (2000) und der Heinrich Böll Stiftung (2014). In den letzten Jahren hatte er Einzelausstellungen im Kunstmuseum Bochum (2016) und im Youngeun Museum of Contemporary Art, Gwangju (2013). Als ein Vertreter der abstrakten Kunst Chinas wurden er vielfach in Deutschland und China in Museen gezeigt. Chen Ruo Bing lebt und arbeitet in Düsseldorf.

Chen Ruo Bing’s theme is the void. «In the emptiness of the image lies the source of its meaning.» serves him as a motto. That is, he deliberately does not give meaning to the picture, but he does not go so far as to present a blank canvas. On the contrary, his pictures turn into colored light spaces. He banishes the immaterial light, the seeming nothingness, in colors painted thinly on the rough canvas, which, on closer inspection, dematerialize again. They seem to become pure light once more.

Chen Ruo Bing (born in 1970 in China) studied at the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts in Hangzhou, and with Gotthard Graubner at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. He has received numerous prizes and fellowships, including residencies from the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation (2000) and the Heinrich Böll Stiftung (2014). In recent years, he had solo exhibitions at Kunstmuseum Bochum (2016) and the Youngeun Museum of Contemporary Art, Gwangju (2013). As a representative of China’s abstract art, he has been shown numerous times in museums in China and Germany. Chen Ruo Bing lives and works in Düsseldorf.
